RICCARDO PES - CELLIST
INTERVIEW ON MESSAGGERO VENETO
How the Art has responded to the #coronavirus outbreak
(Translation at the bottom)
TRANSLATION:
In the last two weeks, the coronavirus outbreak has put down the whole cultural events in Italy. All performances and concerts have been suspended. Despite the facts, the artists are resisting in order to prevent the country from a complete absence of music, theatre and Art in general.
<< Today the situation is very hard for musicians and artist. All the concerts planned have been cancelled and I had to postpone my return to England as well. As italian musicians, we are living an unprecedent discrimination and we are experiencing it worldwide. In Italy, the situation is dramatic as many people, who works in theatres and entertaining industry in general, will not be paid in the meantime. The future is uncertain and I hope we will receive a support from the government.>>
The light at the end of tunnel seems not coming yet, what solutions could the music provide at the moment? Several musicians have been reacted by performing online, via streaming from their social accounts. It is like a scream of pain against a tragic reality that seems dystopian. I am convinced though that the streaming will not take the place of a live event in the future. Its unicity is given by the fact that you meet other people in person and share impressions and emotions of the momentum.
Can this difficult moment inspire a new way to share the Art?
Sure. I think we could create an online platform where you decide which concerts listen to. I imagine a rich offer of live concerts of every genres from different parts of the world. A sort of Netflix for concerts. This would be very interesting in order to engage new audience, especially the yougest generations , and make the art events more accessible to a wider audience. That could be also an interesting way to attract important private sponsors. I planned to have my first streaming concerts at the end of this month but unfortunately, due to the latest restrinctions, this is not going to happen anymore. Luciano Gobbo, founder of the Studio Pointer in Venice, sponsored the concert and wanted to do it anyway to give a spark of support to the Art. This will be postponed too.
